18 years ago I had a female student in my Algebra 2 class. She was very bright and did well but her final grade for the course was 2 points short of an A. She came to me to see if I could bump her grade up to the A. I turned her down. She then told me that I didn’t understand. She was moving with her family back to Pakistan. She then told me that in Pakistan, if a girl does not get straight A’s then she isn’t allowed to go to school. I bumped her up the 2 points.
I’ve often wondered if what she told me was true or not. Maybe she was just playing me. In any case, I gave her the points and a few years later I was told she was a doctor in Pakistan. I think I would do the same thing again.
