Children in Africa

Author Farimah Fiddy

I was more surprised than shocked, simply because it came out of nowhere.

When he was very young, he asked me for some paper. I told him to help himself to the stack in my office.

He disappeared up there.

Then he called out for an envelope. Then the tape.

I wondered what he was up to, so I went to see. He was intently working on something at my desk.

When he was finished, he handed me an envelope, sealed with tape and addressed simply to ‘Children in Afrika.’

Inside were a few pound coins taped to a sheet of paper.

He asked me to post it. I said I would.
