Amia came into my life in August 2000 but I only discovered this in September. A doctor confirmed to me that I was pregnant, and in the same breath, the probability of a miscarriage was 65%. I waited for time to pass. Amia stayed. At twelve weeks of pregnancy, I thought that the fetus was inert, I was lucky enough to have an ultrasound. Amia was moving like a fish in water. She moved her arms, her legs, her head and her whole body. On my cheeks tears of joy were only a dim reflection of the fireworks that were playing inside me. A child was there, alive and well despite statistics.
